Amber Mers (she/her) is a PhD student and junior lecturer at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Prior to this, she completed a MA in Medical Anthropology and Sociology and a MA in International Public Health at the University of Amsterdam.
Her PhD research focuses on community engaged education in Global Health. With her research she aims to highlight the critical importance of justice and equity in addressing complex (future) global health challenges, ensuring that marginalized voices are included in this. By adopting a transdisciplinary approach in her research, she aims to empower future generations to not only understand these global health challenges but also to actively advocate for social justice and equity.
In addition, she is involved in an innovative global health minor program in which students work together with local/global community partners on real-life health issues.
