Dr. Carla DiGiorgio is a professor of education at St. Francis Xavier University in Canada. She has been a school teacher and then professor for thirty five years. Dr. DiGiorgio has written numerous books about inclusive education. Her latest book, "Inclusive education: A global perspective" provides information on policies and practices from each continent, and offers suggestions based on contextual analysis of cultures, history and teacher support.
Dr. DiGiorgio has led many innovative teaching approaches for teacher education around the world. She has been involved in democratic teacher education in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and throughout Canada. Her multilingual background allows her to traverse cultural boundaries. Dr. DiGiorgio has also developed leadership education for indigenous communities, women in leadership roles, and teacher candidates from diverse communities including neurodiversity.
She has had various roles across university administration, including acting dean, associate director of curriculum development and indigenous research facilitation. She has liaised on behalf of university students with disabilities, has sat on many government committees and was editor of the Canadian Journal of Education for four years.
Her latest research focuses on achievement of students from diverse cultural backgrounds. She has supervised many graduate students and also teaches research methods to international students in the Master of Island Studies program at University of Prince Edward Island.
