Dr. Gamuchirai Chakona is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Rhodes University Community Engagement. Her research explores the nexus of food systems, climate change as well as intricate social dynamics relating to gender, food security and nutrition. Dr Chakona’s work focuses mostly on the food value chain, specifically on sustainable nutrition-sensitive agricultural practices, socio-economic status and the impacts of climate change and food prices on household/individual food availability, access (affordability and distribution) and consumption; and how this plays out for food and nutrition (in)security, and sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable groups, specifically women of reproductive age (15-49 years) and young children (0-5 years). Her research emphasises on the use of participatory-collaborative-contextual approaches to knowledge co-creation and production which has the potential to embody the research into the realities of the communities.
