Dr. Jaisubash Jayakumar is a senior lecturer in medical education at the Department of Pathology, University of Cape Town (UCT). He holds a PhD in Clinical Sciences and Immunology, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Technology from UCT. He is in the final stages of completing a Master’s degree in Education, specializing in Higher Education Studies. Dr. Jayakumar is deeply involved in academic leadership, serving as the co-course convenor for two MBChB courses and the co-chairperson of the Faculty of Health Sciences Transformation and Equity Committee, where he leads initiatives that focus on diversity, equity, transformation, and decolonisation in higher education.
His teaching philosophy is inclusive, student-centred, and blended with pastoral care, emphasising humanising pedagogies that contribute to decoloniality, equity, and social justice. His key research interests include undergraduate medical education, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and technology enhanced learning. Dedicated to teaching and mentoring, Dr Jayakumar is committed to helping students develop their academic skills and achieve their academic goals. In his free time, he enjoys singing, meditating, and reading.
