Assoc Prof Reva Ramiah, Faculty of Science & Engineering, Curtin University, Perth, Australia
Dr. Reva Ramiah is an Associate Professor and teaching-focused academic at the Faculty of Science and Engineering (SAE) at Curtin University, Australia, since 2013. Reva is passionate about fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments and is currently focused on increasing the participation and success of marginalised student cohorts in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Her work centres on empowering academics to embrace equity and belonging principles in their teaching by encouraging them to reflect on their own identities and lived experiences.
In her role, Reva collaborates with academic staff to enhance learning and teaching capabilities, ensuring that innovative and effective approaches are central to their practice. She also leads SAE’s initiatives to improve language, literacy, and communication skills across various departments, drawing on her expertise in both English Language Studies and science education.
Before joining Curtin University, Reva was a pre-service teacher educator at the Institut Pendidikan Guru Malaysia (The Malaysian Institute of Teacher Education). With a PhD in English Language Studies from the National University of Malaysia, she has a deep understanding of language acquisition and pedagogy, which informs her innovative teaching methods. Her extensive experience in diverse educational settings enables her to connect with students from various backgrounds.
Reva’s recent research is focused on breaking down barriers in STEM, aiming to increase the participation and success of traditionally marginalised student groups in STEM disciplines. Her work is about creating opportunities, breaking down barriers, and ensuring an inclusive future for all.
