The International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association Conference is an annual gathering of professionals and thought leaders from around the world to dialogue, network, and collaborate on issues relevant to teaching and learning in higher education. The vision of the conference is to generate new knowledge and to advance the scholarship and practice of teaching and learning in this sector of education.

The 2024 International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association Conference will be hosted by Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

The Eastern Cape Province in South Africa is the home to Nelson Mandela, one of the world’s greatest stateman to have ever lived.  Situated in a game reserve, and in the backdrop of the Indian Ocean, Nelson Mandela University is the only university named after this  icon.

This is the first Conference’s appearance in the African continent since its inception in 2010.

Building on the successes of the previous Conferences, especially the 2023 Aberdeen Conference, the 2024 Conference explores the manifestations of the transformative role of universities in society. The theme for the Conference is Universities as change agents in society: Imagining social innovation for sustainable futures.

Venue: Boardwalk Convention Centre, Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) Eastern Cape Province, South Africa

Date: 2 - 4 October 2024
